The Plymouth Rock Breeders thread

I posted these in the regular PR thread and wanted to post here as well. This weekend we are culling the extras (which are obvious) After that I will post indivudal pictures of each remaining male for advice on my #1 breeder, #2 backup and #3 my backup's backup.

I have only 3 (maybe 4 girls) They are never in the same place at the same time, so I can't recall if I have 3 or 4 of them. They are all staying.

Male #1

Male #1

Male #1

Male #2

Male #2
I tagged him early on for fast growth. I really like his tail.

Male #2

Male #3 Also tagged early on for fast growth, though I am second guessing it now.

I have a few more, but these three are the only boys with pictures this weekend. They are 20 weeks old.

Quote: This guy might be in the middle of a juvie molt, and I certainly cannot speak to color/pattern.....but he is a STUD! Full chested....underline is near perfect (see the bowl shaped line from his neck to just below the tail), great yellow legs. Back may be a tad rainy day...would love to see a pix of him directly from above.....does he carry the width of his back from shoulders to hips? I'd like to see a slightly larger head, but its not bad.

I'd like to see Male #1 in a good, standing profile shot, but he looks to narrow at the hips in the shot from above

Of the 3 you've shown, just judging from the pix (and that can be a little tough), I'd select Male #3 myself as a breeder in my pens

It's you that keeps saying my early picks are my studs isn't it? :)

I do like his chest a lot. I'll have to take some from above for you.

Please don't take my comments critically (or as the gospel). I am simply comparing them to what I look for in my Col Rocks and which one(s) I'd pick if I were in your shoes. I'm certainly no expert

....but, I still like #3 best

Okay, I have to ask: what does "rainy day" mean in reference to a chicken, other than a fowl day?
(Sorry. I couldn't help myself.)

It means a bird on which the back line slopes toward the ground, as if to shed water on a rainy day. LOL

Same bird, BTW. Sometimes it is just the way they pose. BUT…. when they are naturally downhill? That's a Rainy Day bird.

Thanks. :)
Not relevant, but snow here (sigh). My chickens don't mind rain, but snow is apparently toxic.
Personally I'd rather have the ground frozen then what we have now, which is a huge mud slide near the barn, which makes chores very difficult! We have to be so careful not to slip..

Thankfully our farm is well insured now. As a farm, in case any visitors fall :S

No you can not come over and fall on my farm. lol

This is but a temporary blast, reaching quite far south, from TX to GA. Supposed to be back into the 50's by the weekend, which is balmy for us. But sure enough. Winter is coming for certain.

No outside time makes them grumpy, but unless I plow paths for the birds to migrate to pine trees where the snow doesn't accumulate, as a rule, they never have liked wading through snow up to their necks. Nope. Makes for a long winter.
