Same pullet as above

Hackle on this female is a tad too high (goes too far up the neck) BUT her hackle is much darker than the other pix posted (a real plus!!)  The mossiness in her back is an indication she is a little overly dark in undercolor...also not a bad thing as it is VERY hard to darken if you ever get it too light

I would use her as a female from which I would expect well marked males...female offspring will likely be a tad dark, perhaps mossy backed

I was going to use her for producing cockerels as I heard the speck long in the saddle helps create better marked cocks as I was told by Jim sallee to me she is just dark but my older hen is on the light side so I was going to use her for a hen line

try to maintain that "dark black" in the hackles

The original female looks light to me in that area...the last pullet pictured would be a good pullet to hatch females from in my opinion....not too much leakage in her back

That's what I was thinking my pens for this year is going to be the original hen and the last pullet are going to be my hen line as I'll probably pair with a dark cockerel the darker hackle hen is going to be my cock line and I was think of pairing her with a lighter cockerel what do you think?

In the cockerel pen, don't use a cockbird that is too light....try to use one that is as close to "correct" as you have...you could actually use a "correctly colored" cockerel in both pens

Oh ok so breeding dark to dark will be ok I was thinking of offsetting the dark and light to get correctly colored birds so then maybe I'll just use my best correctly colored cockerel and breed him in both pens

I'm humbled by your willingness to share so much information about breeding schedules, etc., and for taking the time to write it all down for the new people. You all rock!
