I know this. There are some great birds in NY and the wider area. We've sent some hatching eggs up that way over the years so I suppose there might be some pretty decent males around for your Barred females. For certain, there will be some great young cockerels hatched out soon up that way. By August, they'll be grown out sufficiently for many of the breeders to be shedding themselves of many of them. If you're looking for utility, these birds are pretty hard to beat.
A good Barred Rock hen will lay very well, even into her 3rd laying season and well beyond. Lots of time to produce some good offspring from them.
If you want some SPR, I know a few sources where you can get some really good eggs, right here on this thread. Just read back a few dozen pages or more.
