Had a member here at BYC ask me about shipping some K's to OK. I'm fine with trying it. They need another week to 10 days and they'll be ready to go, Richard. If I can sneak 3 into that bigger box, I'll do it. I'm also gonna watch the weather there and look for a two day window of mild temps. Glad it's late May, as any later than early June, I don't believe I try it. I got three 75 K's that are peas in a pod. Little clones. You might give Mr. Reese a call over at Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch and ask Frank has got a few P's he'd be willing to part with. I bet you could even just drive over and pick them, if any are available.

We are eagerly awaiting their arrival, Fred. I thought we had a line on some Good Shepherd pullets down in our area but it hasn't panned out. So, we have contacted Mr. Reese and hope to hear something soon.

A little Buff Rock cockerel hatched 4/20 Hitting the gawky stage. I have four chicks here; haven't really looked close enough to guess sexes yet tho. My partner has 11 hatched from the birds I have plus some chicks from their parents siblings. so now wait and watch.

There was one very strange chick hatched in the bunch...it looks very chipmunk-like and is NOT normal at all for a Columbian. After discussing with a genetics friend, it is eb/eb, S/S without any pattern gene (missing Co)....which means not only is the father split to columbian, but the mother is as well. Neat, but very, very rare as it would take a perfect combination to create this and it was only due to the accident of my "project male" that it was discovered.

I have 3 total and they just look like "over marked/over colored" Columbians. Still young though

To answer all in regards to the "blues"

Yes they do have some of the partridge type markings - its a whitish/cream color.

I had someone offer me $20 per bird for 3 of them which I couldn't turn down. I do have a few more coming up though.

I will try to get some pics this weekend -- I do have 2 young pullets as well I can post.

I guess I hadn't realized this might be a "find". I just like blue birds.

My original intent in crossing them was to get something with the size of a White - and the laying proficiency of the partridge.

If it was dominate white, all the chicks would be white wouldn't they??? Couldn't the blue have come from either parent? I don't know how the pattern gene works on the partridge. Is partridge supposed to be dominate?? Hey, send me some of them eggs!......

Stan....if it was dominant white you are correct, the chicks would have been white. Now as for partridge dominance I am not certain.

Keep in mind partridge are actually "double laced" as opposed to Andalusian which is "laced"....not certain if you could breed out the double lacing of a partridge or not (it actually the same pattern as silver penciled, just in a different base color)

If they are carrying Pg gene, you have a rare find. All three blue rock breeders would love some of those genes.... Please let me know when you mi
ght have some of those eggs available!

Yeah Scott, I am not close to understanding how the partridge pattern works, but Joe Emenshiser (sorry I butchered his name) once told me that that was the way to go to get true lacing. Seems it is that gene that causes lacing and you can not breed lacing from birds with edging. It would be nice if the 'double' lacing pattern worked like blue- double dose gives penciling, double dose of blue gives splash.. but I'm pretty sure it isn't that easy..lol guess I need to spend some time on the chicken calculator. ....stan

Ok so Punnet Squares were one of the funnest things I've ever done - if it weren't for the disections in Bio -- I might have gone into genetics.

What are the possible Combos I'm looking at in my Whites and in my Plymouths?

The other thing that seems to be occurring -- is that my Blues are all Girls. Even the pullets I have now.

I'm moving coops occupants around this weekend anyways. I was originally going to put the blues in with a Partridge Roo I have. I will instead keep them with a White and some additional Partridges to hatch out more blues. I promise to keep everyone posted.

I never thought my girls would generate this much interest.
