the price of eggs

I use layer feed and let them roam the yard during the day so is this organic or free range or just fresh eggs?

I would say it depends on your yard.

I "let them roam the yard during the day" also.

My yard is unfenced and they roam the neighbor's yards as well. I would say that free-range is appropriate in this scenario.

If we get meat chickens in the spring we are going to fence off a large paddock for them. The neighbors range from hunky-dory to tolerant about 9 chickens running around in the neighborhood. I don't think that 35 would be appreciated. I wouldn't consider those chickens to be free range, but I would be comfortable calling them pastured.

If everything you feed them is organic (including scraps) you could say they the chickens were organically fed, but not that the eggs are organic. For that, your land would have to meet organic standards and be certiified as such.

For commercial chickens to be considered "range" all they have to do is offer access to outside, not freedom or whether they actually leave a cage.

Info was from a reliable source, someone who wholesales meats to grocery chains.

^^ Yes. The above is true.

I, personally, however wouldn't call my eggs or chickens free range unless they had no fence or at least acres to roam.

No kidding. Have you seen how much money Monsanto has poured into fighting GMO labeling!
