I am an art student majoring in Illustration and it is my junior year. As one of my finals we got to pick a fairy tale and illustrate a book cover and a 2 page spread. I decided to do the story The Little Red Hen. I have a passion for chickens which many of my class mates don't understand. They support it but you know how it is talking to people who don't know about chickens. You get on a roll and their eyes start to glaze over and all they here is chicken...feather...did this!...chicken. Sooo I decided to get some input from my fellow chicken lovers on Back Yard Chickens! I am actually planning on finishing this book and possibly publishing it. I am going way beyond what the assignment entails because it involves both my passions, chickens and art. So tell me your thoughts! I used a New Hampshire Red Hen as the little red hen, a White Chinese Goose for the goose, a Swedish Blue Duck as the duck, and for the chicks I decided to make it simple and just make them yellow. I know they don't look EXACTLY like the breeds (the blue Swedish has a yellow bill rather than black) buuuuut do you still see them and go OH! that's a White Chinese Goose! type thing. For making these I did them tactically with colored paper (cool grey 70% I think) with prismacolored pencils. In the picture with the hen holding the bread with her babies at her feet I used some bleach on the paper. A niffty trick my professor taught me! If you are interested I can post more pictures as I complete the different pages. Sorry for all the font all over the pictures... just want to make sure people don't take credit for all the work I have put into this. Hope I get some interest in this
.
