The wife had been threatening to get chickens in the past and finally decided this was the year.. We are huge egg eaters and love animals so getting chickens was the next logical step.

That all being said, we went to our local Co-Op an purchased eleven birds. Two Austra Whites, two Black Autralorps, two buckeyes, two golden sex links, and three Ameraucanas.
They are currently living in a brood box in our garage and are getting pretty big and will need to move out to the coop soon! I decided that I would post up our build progress to share with you all.

Here is the kennel we are going to remove and use as the foundation and my helper. The slab is 21' long by 9' wide

Here is said helper pressure washing the concrete after we removed the kennel

Between the leaves and the pollen it was pretty messy.

The idea is to build a 15' long coop. Nine feet of the coop will be on the foundation, the rest of the six feet will over hang a grassy area.

Here is a shot of the clean slab and the post holes for the overhang.

We decided for the sake of less cutting to go with full 8' walls.

Laying out the first wall. Air nail gun was nice.

This is the north facing wall. I didn't have window yet so it was fully skinned with OSB. When we find the right window it will be opened up.

First wall up and braced. Currently it is setting about 6' away from where it should be.

West wall is up. I'm going to use glass blocks for lighting that will fit between the studs which will be added later.

Can't wait to see the finished project! And when you are finished with your little helper I have a few jobs for him to do!

We set brackets in the post holes we dug and used fast setting concrete. Two bags each. We allowed them to set overnight.

Adding the south wall. Again I will be opening up the wall next to the green ladder. This is where they will roost.

Putting a top plate on. We also used a roto-hammer to drill the holes for the foundation bolts.

Added the east facing wall, you can see the header for the window and door. We were getting all the walls plumb and anchored to each other my daughter and Great Dane "Waylon" spectate.

More top plate action! To give you a sense of size. The guy in the blue sweatshirt is 6' 4"

I will post more pics shortly...

I wish, I had someone here that could help me make a beautiful chicken house. All I can say is wow....

Built eleven roof trusses on the concrete slab and will run them east and west. Here are four more pics.

Not sure you would classify this as helping.

Added the overhang posts and the home made trusses. OSB around most of the walls.

Adding the OSB to the roof. It's starting to look like something.

Pretty happy with it so far. Still a long way to go from here.
