The RE-Build of Les Farms

Aoxa - wanted to mention that I know some folks that had an old barn that they re-sided in barn red metal. It has the old cement block type foundation. It's a relatively small barn - not one of those HUGE ones of yesteryear but about half that size.

That metal siding looks really nice on that barn and not out of place at all. I'm sure they were thinking about not having to paint that old wood siding and being able to reinforce the frame at the same time. If I remember I'll take a photo the next time I'm down there. It belongs to the son of the farmer where I get my milk. (Used to get eggs from them BC [Before Chickens] )

I'd love that! Please do take a picture :)

Did you make plans for keeping your FF warm in the winter? I see plans for a feed room, but depending on how you're going to keep it warm you may need heavier guage wire and larger fuses headed to that part of the barn. Should be able to just tell the builder and he can figure amps, etc and figure it all out for ya.

Yes the whole barn will be insulated, and the feed room will be heated. There will be an electrician that will take care of all that stuff.

Will also be putting a mini split heat pump in the chicken part to the barn to keep it cool in the summer and bring it to just above freezing in the winter (for ease of chores and to keep waters and feed from freezing).
Not many worries about power outages. We rarely get them here.

Okay, so the baby barn has been delivered for the basement babies, and I love it! Here are some quick pictures before we put shavings and the birds in there.

Koda inspecting the building

They put the pop door at ground level. Ah well. They thought to secure it from the inside - which is very cool of them.

They still haven't come to clean up the debris :(
