Health care is one of my favorite issues.
I would love to see at least regulations like mentioned above put into place. I grew up in a working family without health care of any kind, and it was really hard on us. I'm glad some Republicans are waking up and realizing there's a problem.
Oh, speaking of government run health care...did anyone see the Bush's budget plan? 200 billion to Iraq with 200 billion cuts from Medicare and Medicaid. Oh and 145 Billion stimulus package. Well, thank you old, disabled and impoverished people for sacrificing your health so that we can spend some dollars at
Walmart and get the new Nintendo We and flat screen TV.
I can roll my eyes because I voted and it wasn't for him...

Anyway back to the Real ID Act.
Does the government think this is going to stop terrorist coming into to the country? How are they going to stop them if they are sneaking across the border? Build a wall in Canada, too...since that's how the 9/11 terrorists came through the Maine/Canada border. Why don't they just require passports to come in instead of forcing Americans to get some national ID? I believe they are already starting to require a passport to come in and out of the USA anyway.
Or is this aimed at illegal aliens? What I am not understanding is how anyone can get a drivers license or State ID with out a SSN and Birth Certificate (or Naturalized /Immigration) papers in the first place. I think the government should be figuring out why/how people are getting ID's they aren't entitled to. No ID, no government services and no need for it to be national.
If you already have a drivers license or state ID are you just going to have to renew it to get this new compliant ID? Well, how would that help since so many illegals already have licenses? When I went to renew my license, all I needed was my old license and $35.
I really don't see the benefit in the Real ID act, other then another step closer to eating Soylent Green....Not kidding!
I have a US driver's license, but i'm not a US citizen. In the state where mine was issued, amongst others, a SSN and birth certificate are not required, so I am perfectly entitled to it. I've done everything the legal way (ie the expensive way), but I didn't get a SSN until two years after I got my DL.
