The two cocks wrestled mercilessly on the ground, pecking and scratching. SwordSpur was pinned to the ground when DarkKnight twisted off of his back and rolled onto him. SwordSpur panicked, he couldn't escape the grip. He tried to push DarkKnight off, but that did him little good. DarkKnight only clenched his claws harder to stay on top. SwordSpur remembered his advantage, and spurred DarkKnight. DarkKnight face-planted to the ground, his beak full of dirt. He spat it at SwordSpur and wearily got back up. His chest began to bleed and ache, and he was weak. He charged back at SwordSpur, but SwordSpur lept out of his way. He fell when he missed and slid on his hocks for a moment, and couldn't get back up. SwordSpur was standing on top of him. DarkKnight didn't fight back. "Just kill me; you have me now!" He demanded. SwordSpur was suprised. "But-- don't you want me to spare you? I've defeated you, is that not enough?" DarkKnight shook his head. "I am defeated and can't fight back. The rules here are different than the ones you grew up with. The one who lives wins!" SwordSpur couldn't do it. He couldn't kill for fame. "I refuse." He said. DarkKnight shook his head. "You are weak." He replied. SwordSpur glared at him. "If I am weak, so be it. But I refuse to kill just for fame." He got off of DarkKnight. "Don't you want to earn the prize? Don't you seek approval from your human?" He asked. SwordSpur shook his head. DarkKnight was so confused. "We will tie, and that is that. I am leaving." SwordSpur said, walking back to the man. "Th-Thank you?" DarkKnight said. Deep down, he was scared for his life and now was very relieved that SwordSpur spared him. SwordSpur left the building, the man chasing behind him. "Why aren't you fighting?" He demanded.

SwordSpur escaped to the forest, and ran far, far away. Far away from the man who trained him, far away from all that he ever knew. He wanted to make himself a new life in the forest. He wondered if seeing his parents again outweighed his need to make a new life. It was a difficult decision, but he decided against going back. His parents wanted better for him. He wasn't meant to kill. Without looking back, he walked deeper into the forest.

BlackKnight wearily stood up. The entire audience was staring in shock; they couldn't believe that SwordSpur no longer wanted to fight. He shot out the door, and followed after SwordSpur. SwordSpur had taught him that he had a will, and he does not live for someone else. For the first time in a long time, he smiled. He was happy to have chosen freedom instead.

The disappointed audience left, the announcer scowled and watched them walk away. BlackKnight's trainer looked desperately around for him, he too wanted the money. He gave up, and went back home.
