A soft breeze blew through the window and into the coop, the warm summer sunlight pouring in through the window. In the corner of the coop, hidden from the sunlight sat a small brown hen in a nest tucked away under a rotting board. Under her, sat six little brown eggs almost ready to hatch. They rocked back and forth, eager to break free of their shells.

Nice!!

I love the whole 'rotting floorboards' part, it really adds a sense of... well, Russet.

I should maybe write a history, but who could I do? My characters aren't very interesting... hmmm

Y'all can guess who it belongs to. (fwdia, I am still VERY confused about the code, but I'm not reading through the fight thread. I quit that one. lol)

It was cold outside. The bitter wind howled and bought with it the first snow of the year - beautiful, white flakes that settled slowly onto the den, crystallising into an icy, intricate pattern of frozen beauty.
Inside, a lone egg lay under a mound of dirt, designed to retain heat and keep the temperature stable, despite the raging conditions outside. It had waited patiently under its suffocating cover, slowly growing inside until it would be strong enough to hatch out and take on the world.

It had been alone for some time now. A long, long time ago, a young pullet with shimmering icy blue feathers had sat in this very location, crying for what would be when her parents found out what she had done. She knew deep in her heart that she had to leave and go back home.
The day had come. She carefully piled up rotting leaf litter which would generate heat, leaving behind her egg, instantly erasing the possibility that she would ever see her beautiful son grow up, have dreams of his own, live, learn and hope. She walked out from the small retreat, the icy wind batting at her from all directions, almost blowing her off her feet.

She never looked back.

That's really great! I'm looking forward to reading more!

Sorry, but no, doesn't ring any bells.
