The Sizzle Thread!

She looks splash to me too.
Beautiful girl!!! I just love the ruffles too :)
I know since they're from country's pens of sizzles, they have to have the frizzle gene in play in its genetic background somewhere. In my mind it makes the most since as the reason for ruffling. I know she's on her 14th or more generation of sizzles, it does seem posible that a mutation of the frizzle gene could be in play.
Interesting to know that it's poped up other places in non frizzled bird though? Do you have pictures of your americanas? I have lavender americanas here too, And haven't noticed it in mine here. but they are pretty young stil, I'm going to keep a close eye on them as they grow up now :)
I plan to breed them to my frizzle americans so maybe it will pop up then?

Maybe it is some odd variation of frizzling? Does she have the frizzle modifier in her flock? Maybe it is an over-expressed case of the modifier gene on an unfrizzled bird? Just guessing...

here are some of my 1st generation chicks that's about 1-2 months old

and these are 4th generation

what is this color? the mom is my nice smooth hen and dad is birchen, so how did I get a buff with white and black??

Hi,

I need help, I have just stumbled across these adorable little guys via a local breeder. I want to get my gf one for x-mas but infomation is sparse at best online so I am looking for some advice/info.

Also please dont take my ignorance on the subject as a sign of an unresponsible pet owner, my gf is also a trained vet tech. But I do need info, everyone needs to start somewhere.

Are they good indoors? Friendly? Generally a good pet?

Thanks in advance

My sizzle are sweet as can be. You don't want to breed two frizzle together because the offspring will have brittle feathers. Don't have advise on keeping them inside.

Sizzles are very friendly, they have silkie personalities. THOUGH, as you know, everyone is different and they all have their own personalities. I have kept a lot of house chickens and it is rewarding, but it's like having a baby. You have to change their diapers when they get too full (really good diapers can be bought at www.pamperyourpoultry.com) and you can get them a large rabbit cage or dog kennel to have a quiet place to sleep, eat, drink, and have privacy.

I would suggest getting two they are flock animals and like haveing a friend to run around with and snuggle with at night. I also think roosters make better more loyal pets when raised from baby's,
my first chicken ever was in south Florida and just showed up a few weeks old lost and wet on my front door step. ( south Florida has a large population of wild ish chicken) so how could i turn him away!!
I had him for 3 years and he was a total sweet heart!!! He slept in a planted tree under the front door over hang. We feed and water him like an out door pet. He would cuddle with me on the couch when I was home, he Help me garden, and would sit on my shoulder when i was working in the yard, and would run down the drive to see me when he heard my car coming. an excellent pet!! And Very loving. But I did feel bad that I was his only friend. Stupid city restrictions said you couldnt own chickens, but no rules about befriending chickens. :)
He was just a standard mut rooster. But silkies and sizzles are very well know to be one of calmest of the chicken breeds and very friendly. I have a large flock of chickens now and have worked with many, many breeds. But now mostly i have silkies and sizzles. they are by far my favorites :)
Small compact balls of love!!
I think your girlfriend will be pleased:)
