The Sizzle Thread!

From reading the beginning of this forum it is clear to me that to further the Sizzle breed and get good birds it takes many generations of breeding. So my thinking is to get quality birds from one of the breeders that has been doing this for years is the best way to get started with my own line....as I understand it you breed Sizzle to sizzle unless you need to strengthen the Silkie traits. I got my birds from Sheri in Lincoln Ca and they are at least 13th generation but there are others posting in this thread that also have birds that are many generations into their breeding programs....a true Sizzle is not just a cross breed!!

x2 , nice way to put it

Question...
I'm trying to put my breeding pens together on paper so when I finally get everyone in their pens I know where to put everyone. Right now I only have 3 sizzles, two of which are smooth. So in Pen 1 I'd like to put the Sizzle Roo over the Smooth Hen and the Silkie/Cochin Cross Hen.

In Pen 2 I'd like to have the Frizzle Hen, Silkie Roo, and another silkie hen so at least 1 of the eggs will be pure silkies.

I have a couple of other silkies that I'm unsure how/where to place them. If I were to place a Splash Silkie Hen in with the Splash Sizzle (frizzled type) would I get more sizzles or not really because I'm not breeding a Silkie to a frizzle?

My black sizzle that was almost bald when I got her. She is feathering back in nicely. I have some of her chicks due this weekend and I can't wait to see how they turn out.

My blue girl and she is still looking a little rough at the moment but some of her eggs are in the bator as well. I am loving my sizzles and can't wait to hatch more.

Oh I can't wait til all my little Sizzles get big enough to know who is going to be what! I can of course already tell feathering at 2 weeks. Just don't know body type or sex. Its so fun to watch them though and try to figure out, but I'm not the most patient. Lol

I just think he is so dang handsome! Thought I could show him off a bit more! Here he is with his white Silkie "brother" they hang together all the time. Not related though. I wonder what the chicks would look like if he bred with my NN bantam barred rock? interesting.....would it even be possible?

my 6 babies just moved from the brooder to their new home...a 6 x 12 ft pen with a 4 x 4 ft hen house!!
they are about 7 weeks old but the chicken parent in me still put a little heat in their coop....
am I being too protective??.....here in Ca we are having lows of 45 and highs of 75 right now
I just love seeing them in their Silkie pile!!..
Ive noticed them picking up pine shavings and putting them on their backs
does this mean they are cold?
ok.....so I like grabbing a beer and just sitting there watching them
can't help it...they are just so **** cute....and I am a proud papa!!

Sonderah......I totally know what you mean!!

Faerie... your Sizzle roo is so handsome!!....and yes if the feathers are getting in the way of him seeing you should just pluck them.....it wont hurt him and he shouldn't mind at all!!

I pluck my brows, it stings a little at first, but then I hardly notice it. Do you think it's similar for him? Also the feathers on his head are either still down baby feathers as he is only about 4 or 5 months old or perhaps they are silkie feathering? How can I tell?
