The Sizzle Thread!

Pics
my experience has been different from Chris'
i have crossed a sizzle (meaning a frizzle feathered, silkie body type) crossed with a silkie and I have gotten: 1/4 silkie feathered, 1/4 frizzle feathered (curly), 1/4 smooth, 1/4 frizzle feathered that changed to a more kinky silkie feathering- these could be confused for a silkie when they are older.

I just have aquick question. I have Sizzle eggs in the incubator right now and I was wodering what would I get if i breed a Silkie rooster to a Sizzle hen? Knowing that the Silkie doesn't have the curly gene.

Interesting....It's good to know. I've got some Silkies that I think I might breed with my Sizzles. By the way my Sizzle eggs are the ones I got from you and are suppose to hatch tomorrow. Can't wait!

great!!! you won't know if they are frizzle feathered until they are about 5 days old when they start to curl and if they are paint, could take longer to tell that (did you get paint sizzles or just sizzle?)

Just sizzle. I'll let you know how they do.

hoppy,
You may be right. I have read so much about this I may have gotten confused somewhere down the road. I'll know better in about a month. I hatched 14 chicks a week ago Sunday and another 15 yesterday. I also have 26 eggs still in the bater and 8 eggs under a broody hen. This is from 2 Silkie roos over Sizzles hens with feathering like in the pic I posted. With 60+ chicks I should have a good idea of what to expect the next time with this combo. My hope is to get 2 smooth feathered roos to put over the hens that I have now and the few chicks that I keep out of the 60 chicks I'm hatching now.

Is there any particular benefit in using a Silkie feathered Sizzle over a Silkie for breeding? If so, please explain.
Thank you.
Hi, Sizzles only have barbed feathers. If it has silkie feathers, its a silkie. I don't know if everyone would agree with this, but to lessen confusion I'm going to say it: Sizzles are a variation of the Silkie, just like Silkied Serama are still Serama. It would just be quite a mouthful to say Smooth and frizzled barbed feathered silkies (or unsilkies

)..... They do have some cochin genetics in their background but alot of the new color variations, like the cuckoo silkie have other breed's genetics in them. Any silkies you produce in breeding sizzles are like regular silkies, the only difference is they might occasionally throw a chick with a single comb or other cochin characteristics. Silkies created in a Sizzle program should be sold as pets, I wouldn't keep them in your program. You breed to silkies when you want to improve the silkie traits in the chickens, so you'd want the best quality ones you can find. Hope this helps!
