The Sizzle Thread!

Pics

I asked this on the silkie forum but didn't get an answer...and I guess these guys are technically sizzles anyways :) They are a silkie/cochin cross, but they have mostly cochin features (single combs, 4 toes.) I got them as day olds for my broody silkie hen who was getting miserably broody. My question is, what color is the darker of the two? I haven't had chicks this young in...forever, and I can't remember what color turns into what. I was thinking blue, but she is yellow on her belly and parts of her side. Splash maybe? Opinions? Thanks in advance.

Hi, haven't been on here for awhile...If I were to show my sizzle rooster, do you think I would have to enter him in the mixed breed section, or pure? Thanks

I was asking a puultry judge this question last week (sort of).
he said it would be shown as a frizzle (as long as it has the curly feathering), the standard would be for a silkie as long as it has a silkie comb. the other class might be silkie, any other variety but this is usually for color.

Chris,
I too don't know much about the breeding of silkies, sizzles, frizzles, etc. My question is, what does frizzled barbed feathers look like? It sounds like what I have on my little chick that I think is a boy who I believe is a "frizzle" or is it "sizzle"--I'm confused now. The feathers remind me of a porcupine. Thanks for any info input. Val

Sheri, is the "rough sizzle" what I have here, that I bought from you this spring. Is this a boy? Seems like it to me. He is so cute and personable! Camdyn named it "Smores".

Next is the smooth silkie, right?? I think a "girl". Kyra named her "Marshmellow".

And this one below is Mr. Mo, a rooster I believe. He always has a bad hair day! His coloring is black, grey and some brown feathers on his wings. Lots of personality too!! I have forgotten his breeding, refresh my memory please. Val

Smore's is a frizzled bantam Cochin. If you got her this spring, I would say she is a girl. A boy would have a lot larger comb at this age.
Marshmallow is a smooth Sizzle. Color is splash but I'm not even going to guess on gender.
Mr. Mo is definitely a little roo & he is a rough Sizzle. The red comb is a fault so he can't be shown but other than that, he is really very cute. Marshmallow & Mr. Mo seem to be very typey & have nice body types - 2 traits which are often hard to get in Sizzles. I'm anxious to see how they turn out.
