The Sizzle Thread!

Pics
This is SQUARE ONE, the very beginning of breeding Sizzles from scratch: If I were starting from scratch ( VERY thankful I'm not LOL) I would put my frizzled cochin roo over my silkie hens and a silkie roo over my sizzle hens - this will give you a mix to work with on sizzles.

IF by frizzles you mean JUST frizzled birds, breed smooth to curled in the cochins and you will get both smooth and frizzled cochins
thank you for the info. My full size smooth cochin bred my sizzles and they went broody so I let them sit on the eggs cause the grandkids were

begging me and heres what we got adorable but have no idea what they are going to look like. The other hatch is due Friday

Quote: You just did not give enough information for real help. Photos of the parent brds would help, too.

We need to know how developed your sizzles are, and what you are intending to improve in them. Also need to know whether you want frizzled silkies as part of the outcome, if all silkie traits are already present in your sizzles.

Using unknown frizzle breeds may not be helpful. A purposeful cross might be, but unknown breeds probably are not.

You did not mention anything about their variety, and that is at least as important as anything you did mention; probably more important.

There is absolutely nothing wrong from judiciously breeding two frizzled birds together.

Quote: Okay, since you do not have a sizzle boy, breed to a silkie (the girls are blues, so breed to blue, black or splash boy).

The frizzled cochins appear to be an assortment of varieties. You did not show or say what variety your non-frizzled boy is. I honestly do not see any obvious breeding pairs in the photos you showed.

I don't have a recent shot of McChicken to share with you guys, but here is the only other smooth 1stGen we kept.

Rough Sizzle Boy - George Jr. Going to breed him to my smallest silkies to help with size.

And of course much more than size needs to be improved. We need
  • Darker Skin
  • Better Feathering on feet
  • Smaller size
  • Better Type
At least the crest is decent! He has a lot of pin feathers in his crest right now. I'll focus on colouring when we get closer to type.
