The Sizzle Thread!

Pics
I hatched a Showgirl sizzle this year under a hen. Don't know what color it is, maybe partridge. I tried to get a picture but it can go through the chain link fence and mom is pretty protective. So between the two things, it didn't happen.

WestKnollAmy- Can you clarify the F ratings, not sure if they would be considered ratings or not. Where do you learn about things like that?
F1-first generation, F2-second generation etc.

You learn by reading, researching and talking with respectable breeders. There are a few good books on genetics, there is a wealth of info on the internet but watch out where you get it as the source may be unreliable and you should be able to join a local poultry club in your area or even a poultry club with your most favorite breed like Cochins International. On their FB or forum sites there is a host of breeders that are experienced and reliable. There are plenty of articles on the websites of many Breed Clubs. Try those and see if you don;t start gleaning a bit more info. You can't learn it overnight but it will eventually start making more sense the more you read and talk about it.

Amy, I love your Silkie Frizzle Cochin. Great project!

LOL Thanks! That was an Oops breeding but the hen hatched out 3 little roos. Sold the other 2 and then no one wanted this guy so he grew up here and I liked him! So now, PJ is in a breeding pen with several blue hens and I am hatching chicks.

Is there a Frizzle thread or should all this Frizzle/Sizzle talk stay here?

And my second question. I ordered some Frizzle Cochin eggs on eBay. Assuming that these really are Frizzle Cochin eggs and I get Frizzle chicks...once the Frizzles are all grown up and I breed the Frizzle hens to my Cochin bantam rooster, will that result in more possible Frizzles?

So when you are talking about generations in that respect is that in line breeding the flock or just generations in general?

I think a smooth cochin crossed with a frizzle will result in 50/50 smooth/frizzle but I would think it would depend on the parents of the frizzle but I could be wrong here. I will be curious to hear what the experts have to say on this.
