The Sizzle Thread!

The comb on my little sizzle is barely there, but is starting to show some red. I will not have time to get more pics for a little bit, but will keep you updated.

Thanks!

the single combed sizzles are a lot harder to to sex, i would not take the comb into consideration sexing them and look only at the neck, tail and crest feathers to sex them they will be longer and pointer about that age. i have had lots of single combed sizzle hens over the years, some with huge combs but all laid eggs all the same. good luck :)

X2 I think sizzles are harder than silkies to sex and the single combs take the cake! They can get sizeable quickly and go on to lay eggs.
Edited to add, I have a soft spot for the single combed silkies/sizzles. I know they're not good for breeding but they're so cute and wonky looking :) I just love them! My all time favorite silkie had one and I have a surprise 15th generation frizzled silkie with one!

Straight combs are a recessive gene. I think the correct combs are much harder to tell with.

You two give me hope!

My Sizzle's comb is really tall.
In terms of neck and crest feathers, those are hard for me to discern having only a single Sizzle. S/he has a tall tail. Is that a giveaway sign?

i've had a hen with a single comb so long it flopped to one side she was an awesome mama hen, and raised lots of babies 100% girl!! if it start getting really red then start thinking boy, but right now it could go either way no matter the size. look for boy feathers its you best hope for sexing sizzles at this age :)

a good thing to look for in a walnut comb (silkie comb) is at this age they will raise up like warts or a bump if its a boy and will stay flatter longer if its a girl. but you can't look for that in a single comb sizzle and length of comb doesn't matter much either because its a matter of how much of a dose of the single comb they get, some boys will have tiny little combs and some girls large combs its kind of a grab bag with sizzles.
