I'd like to get frizzled barbed feathers. My roo is getting old too, so I would really like for him to produce with a regular silkie and produce a barbed feathered sizzle What are the chances?

Bred with a silkie, probably a 25% chance.

Is it possible to get any smooth feathered when bred to a silkie, or no?

It's really my only option right now. I don't have any smooth sizzles.

Yes, it is possible. 25% of them would be smooth if the dad is a frizzled barbed feathered sizzle and the mom is a silkie.

Yep, your male over a Silkie hen and you will have a 25% chance of a, b, c or d. That's basically what I did but the other way around. I put a Silkie roo over my frizzle barbed feathered Sizzles and got all 4 feather types. I gave all the Silkie and frizzled Silkie feathered chicks away and kept all the smooth barbed and frizzled barbed feathered birds to grow out some and see who I'm going to use as my breeders for the Spring.

I'm hoping to get at least one nice smooth barbed feathered male and a few more frizzled barbed feathered hens to add to what I have now.

If the parent silkie is show quality, will the 25% of silkie feathered chicks be show quality? Or will being half sizzle ruin their type? I'm going to breed a black sizzle roo to 2 silkie hens and would like for them to be show quality because it makes it easier to get rid of extra roos.

That is really hard to predict even in a hatch from two show quality silkies. I doubt 25% would be showable. In a hatch of 24 chicks, I think most would be happy getting 4-5 chicks that were showable out of it.

I agree with this 100%

In about 2 weeks you have a good idea of what feather type each chick will be. If mine (I hatched 60 chicks so far in the last 6 weeks with one last batch going into lock down tomorrow night, so 75 sizzle chicks) did not/ does not have barbed smooth feathers or barbed frizzle feathers, I gave/give them away as pet quality. Out of the 60 that have hatched, I kept I think 20 chicks combined, frizzled and smooth. I'll grow these out a little more and cull down to about 4 or 5 that I will keep as breeders for next year. This Spring should be a lot of fun for me if I end up with a nice smooth feathered male!!!

Well it looks like the odds of Dweezle being a girl are going down hill! he is showing off and challenging the White Face Black Spanish cockerells thru the fence and constantly picking on the barred Rock and EE in the grow up pen with him and Jay Jay,

He is a little wet here with all the rain here lately it is hard to get a dry pic.



Here is his comb like a little sub ripe mulberry,



the one time he is actually being nice to the EE and Rock in his pen, "ofcorse he has to be between them and Jay Jay who's tail feathers you can see on the left side!"



We bellive Jay Jay to be looking a little girly for a polish, Once we find him a good quality Silkie mate he will probably hate us for taking his girlfriend away,

These two are about inseperable!!





Well coments or thoughts on Dweezle and what color or type of silkie to pair him up with? I would like to correct the little bit of white on his feet other than that he seems to have no other faults,
We thought his eyes might be too light as well but they seem to be staying dark.
