The Sizzle Thread!

Pics
I've finally separated out my sizzles from my Breda (The sizzles were hatched out of Country's eggs, highly recomend, they are gorgeous!). I got 2 smooth black, 5 frizzled: splash, light blue, dark blue, black, and BARRED!

I'm so excited about the barred one! I was spending all this time looking for barred silkies and I already had the gene here!

I can't seem to get a good picture of that one, but here is the splash:

GORGEOUS!

:love

Thanks!

I just took out one of the smooth black for pictures and realized its actually a dark blue with markings on its neck that might be cuckoo as well. We've been working on shearing our goats the last couple weeks and building a new outbuilding, plus chasing after my 18 month old twins, so I hadn't been looking that closely at these guys. I absolutely love all the colors I got and the fact that each one is different! I also got a frilkie that might be a lemon blue.

Twins? 18 months @_@ You must be so tired..

I have twin nephews that are 8. 1 hour with them and I'm ready for a nap.

Please don't tell me you work full time on top of this? You'd be considered a saint in my books! :gig

You are very lucky! Your birds turned out fabulous! Lemon Blue?! :D :love - pictures. Yes.. Show us that lemon blue!

Cuckoo Frizzled Sizzle and possibly Blue partial Cuckoo? I can't seem to get a good picture of them. The markings are alot easier to see in person, esp in the crest of the frizzled one.

That first one.. Wow.. I love the colouring. She looks brown and black striped from the picture to me.

How early would you suggest sexing sizzles? If their comb is not sizable, how else are you able to sex them (minus crow or laying an egg).

At about 3 months, with the smooths-the girls seem to have a little helmet and the boy's crest seemed to blend into their neck. Look on page 2 or 3 of this thread at Arya and Rowan's pictures. I'm guessing my smooth one above is probably a roo. I'm thinking the same should be true of the frizzled but it may be harder to see it. At any rate, this is just what I've noticed and I haven't had a lot of experience at it.

I've also noticed that the girls are really slow to develop comb. My 2 sizzle pullets I have now are 2 months old and still have absolutely no comb. The boys have the start of wattles and have red combs at 2 months. I've noticed that the cockerels have "slicked back" crest as well where as the pullets have poofier crest that stand up more.

Well I got a mate for Dweezle with the hope of correcting his white feet. a nice blue splash silkie girl.
some how "I am still realing over it" two of my grand kids were given silkies!, as well as the oldest getting a sizzle chick!
So as usual I will have to take care of them.

A few questions from the grand kids, they want to raise chickens of their own but not like the egg chickens grandma has.
#1 what coloration would you call this sizzle chick of Autumns "she wanted to know what it would look like grown up"

the next question they asked is what would happen if their silkies and sizzle had babies? What color would they be?
Roberts "was not sexed there but with the comb protruding as it is in comparison to the 2 probable blue splash pullets" looks to be a cockerell.

And Joyces blue splash "probable" pullet "the one on the left" the smaller of the two splashes.

I told them the black and the blue splash will make blue but they want to know what will happen with Autumns chick of they had babies.

And a quick pic of Dweezle with his new girl! "when he is next to the black silkie he is conciderably lighter so I do not think he is a pure black??" I may have to wait and see what these two
produce?
His girl is the one on the right.
