That's why I thank God we have generators here. Happens here a lot too. Couldn't imagine trying to draw water for everything I have. But I do remember one year a long time ago before we had generators. Had a whole herd of beef cattle, flock of sheep, and a few cows I was milking and our power went out. Thank God for friends !!! I had some friends come over and they took all kinds of containers down to the lake down the road and hauled water upon water for my livestock. Then the next day another friend brought his generator over so we could water everything properly. Right after that we bought our first generator and have had one or two every since then. I have two of them right now. One for a backup LOL.

I wish we could afford a generator. Right now I'm panicking because our pellet stove motor doesn't work so we could be VERY screwed for winter. This place can't have a furnace (no vents) and we sold our gas stove. We want a wood stove but can't find one of those we can afford either. I'm really scared we'll be very, very cold this winter!!!

Silver is down in GA visiting family and looking at property... AND school work... Oh the joy of college. Glad I do not have that problem. LOL

And... I was not using an incubator... I was using a broody, not an incubator... This is the first time I have had a chick die part way out of the shell. Poor thing. I have had one die outside of the shell, but I think that's cuz it got buried in the pine shavings... I commited my first error, I didn't tamp down the shavings, put fresh in the broody coop, so, very very fluffy shavings... I learned a valuable lesson that day, and make sure fresh bedding is compacted in the nest box... BUT, oh well... it happens.

I am wonder is you survived the pipe and the hole and the wife's wrath, Mr. D...

I just got finished working. My strap broke on my door again. Going to have to put another. I think I will try some more weld apoxy along with the strap this time... Get creative. I mean... whats a little added fastening? Oh, it is getting tedious...

I have borrowed an incubator, it is a cheapie, but i am praying it does the job...............I still miss my little family, i hope that cocoa's last egg hatches particularly. It is a huge oblong one, just like the one that cookie came out of. (Cookie is the chick that turned out to be a huggy little thing)

Here's some pics.......

Here's cookie compared to her momma. Notice the similarity in shortened body shape, thick neck hackles and carrying the neck "short" ( they have normal length necks but carry them hunched into their thick hackles), wide head and big noses, long butt fuzz)

New roo. Unsure about color, has a lot going on. Buuut notice the lack of black....Usually with blue there is black markings also, but now so far with this guy. Either blue laced red with gold leakage, or blue partridge? (Help?) Notice the blue red color also in the extra saddle feathers in the tail.....
He has a buttercup comb!? To think that i rescued this guy from a trash bag.........

Well, Coco Chanel went psycho tonight. She kicked poor Criptoe out of her nest, got in it with her babies. Poor Criptoe was wandering around the run complaining very loudly, so then the roosters start up, the frizzle cockerel Fritz is also giving the alarm.... I had to get her eggs out from under Coco, and then put them in a different box, picked up Criptoe, put her in the coop, shined the flashlight into the new nest box, she got in... Going to have to cut the opening a bit bigger tomorrow when she is out and about tomorrow..
