The stuff is hard-coded. It's been rigged so that almost all control for the mechanism is outside of the ship. Steve, get to my gunship. Everyone else, do the same. It's in Kooshie's docking bay, so that will provide double protection if it is life support or if something blows up. I'm gonna stay out here and try to get past the security programs - my suit is self-supporting, so I don't need any form of external life support.

They are contained in the stasis bays, and it is possible that in your file-searching you accidentally deactivated the stasis tanks and woke them up.
