The story that never ends.

"Well you said something of worth or value! That was both." She stormed over to get it. But it was a tight fit for her hand to get under the bookcase. She just barely managed to get two fingers on one of the charms and was able to drag it out. She glared at the bat like creature, then said, "If you don't want this what do you want?"

"What I need is your soul." said the bat creature "My Soul" asked Fairfax "What will happen if you take my soul?" asked Fairfax "You will no longer be able to seek any guardian help." The bat creature replied. Fairfax paused not knowing what to do.

"How will you be able to gain my soul?" "It's simple you just sit there as I read this very simple spell." The bat creature stepped closer with the book to lure Fairfax in. Fairfax remembered that love made the bat creature weak. She loved her bracelet but her friend is running out of time. Without another minute to spare Fairfax took another step closer where the book is in reach the bat creature started to say the spell as Fairfax placed her hand on the book and pulled it away with her other hand at the very same time threw her bracelet into the bat creatures mouth. The Bat Creature moaned with pain.......

Fairfax looked with horror as the bat creature grabbed it's wrinkled throat and started gagging. It then start to dissolve into a gelatinous mess upon the floor. She looked at it repulsed, then she took her foot and used it to move it around. In order to get her charm bracelet back. finally finding it, she picking it up with her finger and thumb. Lightly shaking off the residue goo, she put it back on her wrist. She turned to leave, somehow knowing the enchantment that had barred the door, lifted the moment the creature died. Seeing the bars gone off windows and door, confirmed it. Because the door opened easily.

Thoran was waiting outside. ''Did you get the map?'' Thoran asked. ''Yes. With difficulty.'' Fairfax laughed as she remembered the whoopee and the gelatinous mess the bat had made. ''I permit you to ride on my back. Just give me the directions.'' Fairfax did that and they set off.

It really was strange riding a massive tiger. His gate was so different from that of a horse. Not to mention that they made good time. They were getting closer by the second. But it appeared as they traveled closer, the forest at the base of the mountains, seemed to be changed right before their eyes. It was as if, you were looking through a strange mist. That's when it happened....

... a lake appeared just a few feet before them. But by then, it was too late to stop! Thoran and Fairfax slid into the lake, but...

The surface of the water was more like rippled glass, then water. Thoran didn't sink, his nails screeched as he tried to get purchase on the strange surface. "What bedeviled spell is this?" Thoran asked incredulously. Fairfax shook her head, then realized he could see it. She then said, "I don't know, it says nothing about this lake on the map." Thoran then felt something bump the the glass beneath his paws. He slowly looked down into the murky surface. As something move just below them. He said very quietly, "There's something down there, Fairfax. Something very big. We have to get off this lake right now. Because I believe, if it's alive, then it can get though this solid surface. Are you sure there is no way around the lake?" Fairfax referred to the map. "No, the only way is straight ahead. Right across the glassy water." She said as she slowly climbed off of Thoran's back. "Walk carefully and let's keep moving. We're running out of time Thoran." She reasoned with him.

They kept moving in silence until they felt another bump. They tried to ignore it, but the bump kept getting louder. Fairfax turned around and saw a dark shape gliding through the water. She also saw a large tree trunk ahead of them. That gave her the idea.
