The Sussex thread!

Well, I hope you get a male to go with your Coro females! You are gonna LOVE the size of these friendly birds!

One of my Buff Sussex males, and one of the females. It is blistering hot here, and they are panting!

Well, I'll be! I have 6 red hens bought at TSC that were supposed to be sex links, and they look EXACTLY like your Red Sussex to a TEE. Every detail is spot on including the black markings. I came across that picture and told my wife to come look. SHe said, "There are our birds!" She was surprised when I told her they were RS. Anyway, I just got excited and had to blab about it.

I thought the red sussex were rare and didn't think any hatcheries had them?

I could be wrong, but they might just be similar to the red sussex

I agree. I rather doubt that any hatchery or hatchery outlet (TSC) has them.

I agree with kathy . If you look at the size of the birds I'm sure there is a difference. they have similar color and marking to my new hampshire, production red type birds, but I know mine aren't red Sussex.

I have silver Sussex I am interested in adding the lavender of the coronation to the existing pattern. does anybody happen to know which pattern is dominant the columbian of the coro or the well frankly I don't know what you would call it of the silvers? If anybody has any coros with colored feathers out side of the designated neck and tail feather areas I would love to use them for this project. Sorry if I'm not making lots of sense I am on the dayquil

The light (columbian) pattern is dominant and the lavender (Coronation) is recessive.

Lavender X Lavender = 100% Lavender offspring

Lavender X Split = 50% Lavender, 50% Split offspring

Lavender X Black = 100% Split offspring

Split X Black = 50% Split, 50% Black offspring

Split X Split = 25% Lavender, 50% Split, 25% Black offspring

I don't have a full picture of this breed of my birds, but here is one of the head and neck. I guarantee you the rest of that bird looks exactly like the pictures you posted. If it isn't the same thing then it will surprise me. Maybe I just got lucky? I will try to get a good picture of the whole bird in the next day or so if you want me to.

It doesn't look like a Sussex, because of the yellow beak.
