The Sussex thread!

I posted in the Emergency/disease/Injuries and cures thread but know one has posted a reply I am hoping to get one here. I have an 11 months SS that has something up with her ( I guess they would be saddle) feathers. I dust their coop and nest with DE and they have an ash and DE bath spot. I haven't seen any mites or lice on her. Although she is not the most friendly of my SS's so I didn't get a great look at her. My 4 others have nothing like this. Could it be something to do with her nutrition? They get Ablers Country Layer with 15% protein. They get to free range for a few hours a week and get kale, chard, watermelon rids, lettuce, spinach and Earth worms as treats. I am hoping someone has an ideas as to what is causing her feathers to do this. We don't have a roo and she is my dominant pullet.

Yes sort of. I guess that's what you would call it. They are poofed out on the same spot on either side of her body.

Siler Sussex do have gray legs as chicks and maybe could be close to black.

Do Silver Sussex have slate gray/black legs? I was sold 7 silver sussex chicks. They are about 12 weeks now and 5 of them look proper but two of them look totally different, different body shape, solid black and have dark gray/black legs. I am worried I didn't get what I paid for.

Nope no answer yet. I don't think its from the nest box they would all have it. There is only one nest box.

maybe her feathers are just slightly deformed/elongated??? if she acts fine otherwise maybe that could be it...I think it looks kinda neat personally

I thought I would show off my boy. I hatched him from Hot2Pot eggs. I have Light Sussex eggs from another member in the bator that are due to hatch on 7/10. I love the large stately bodies that the sussex roos have.
