The Sussex thread!

hey everyone !!:D

i am getting 3 sussex babies friday about 8 weeks old. the guy i am getting them from said he is pretty sure they are pullets . my question is how easy is it to sex speckled sussex??

Thanks

this may sound silly, but I thought Susexx laid a tinted egg, today I found a tiny white egg. My girls are just hitting laying age, so I am sure it is one of theirs, but what just shocked it was so white. It was so small dog ate it, hope to get one tomorrow to post a pic of. I was just expecting it to be as dark as my lightest laying Plymouth Rock, what I used to think was "tinted", but these are LIGHT.

Relatively sure what sex mine are by 8-12 weeks if not earlier.

I am considering Sussex for my dual purpose breed. Does any where know where I can get some eggs at this time of year. I am wanting a mixed flock of sussex colors (speckled, coronation, light, silver, buff, etc.) I am looking to get an assortment of eggs? Can someone help me? I am not looking for show quality just meat and egg quality birds.

They're lovely! I'm not big on standards (more of a bantam girl), but I'm enjoying the pictures of them.

Maybe if I end up wanting more egg layers in my flock, I'll get a couple of Sussex girls. I'm getting a spangled OEGB rooster soon--I hope his coloring is as beautiful as these birds!
I didn't look this up... but maybe if you want Speckled Sussex girls you can get some in bantam form... If you are O.K. with small eggs... But like I said I'm not sure if they come in bantam form (Don't all chickens do??)
