The Sussex thread!

I get you guessed England because of the barn and the wide grasses behind !

I love his barn ! But if he filled out his profile right - you can see he lives in Oklahoma - it is just under the profile picture for all of us.

My SS roo - has many feathers that are mixed white and black .... he is only a hatchery bird - so I couldn't say about how this would affect showing .... I don't plan to show.

Anyone else know about this without me having to read a standard that I don't really want to know about ?

My Son's first grade teacher made my day at our parent teacher conference. She said she heard we had chickens. :) She wants to incubate some eggs this spring. She hoped we had a Roo and fertalized egg. Sadly no roo at our house, but of course I offered to help. Yay :) I would like to get hatching eggs from the breeds I would still like to add to my flock. The one breed and variety I really want is SS. I live in Southern CA and have not seen many quality breeders of SS in my area. I would rather not buy eggs from a large volume hatchery and would like the chicks to resemble the description of what a SS should be because afterall that is why I want to add some of these birds to my flock. I am wondering if anyone can offer references to a quality SS breeder that is in the Southern Ca area or a breeder that has had good hatch results shipping eggs.

Thanks in advance,
Julie :)

Ah ENGLAND - well that's the last piece on the barn then ..... that is where I got the idea of how I wanted my barn .... and no one in the US would do it for me ... some said they would teach me .... but I couldn't pay anyone to do it ! and my old barn burned so I needed a new one up NOW with no time to learn a new skill I would use again .... so I had to go with wood. Sigh.

I am so barn jealous of you.

Haha thanks!

Johnn, you always post such absolutely lovely photos of your birds! You should publish a calendar or something with those pictures; just beautiful. Thank you for sharing them.

Yes, a calendar!

Do you only have Sussex in your flock? How about the rest of you on this thread? Do you have other breeds and how do Sussex compare in temperment and habbits to other breeds?
