The Sussex thread!

My little Corronation pullet is so friendly. When I come near her little pen she comes up to talk and goes to the feeder to convince me to put some treats in it. She has me trained already. From what I have read so far, and by the way she acts, (if she is typical), they seem to be smart birds.
The young Ameraucanas in the next pen still fuss and jump back when I go near their cage even though I have had them since they were day old chicks. I am thinking of replacing my Ameraucana flock with Sussex.

Yes, a calendar!

Do you only have Sussex in your flock? How about the rest of you on this thread? Do you have other breeds and how do Sussex compare in temperment and habbits to other breeds?
Nope. I only have 2 Sussex. A LS and a SS. And apart from them I have 3 Buff Orps, 3 ex batts, 1 Ancona bantam, 1 Welsummer and 2 mix breeds.

Well, to day was picture day at the coop. This is my only speckled sussex "Peck".I plan to hatch some of her eggs. With my blue splash roo I hope to get blue speckled.

Hello, I just found this thread today. Everyone has such pretty birds! Here are mine, Riker and Moe. I don't know what my flock would be like without the Wonder Twins, they're a hoot!

Just my grumpy opinion. If I had a Speckled Sussex hen this nice, I sure wouldn't waste her breeding some off color chicks. Nice width and depth of body, arrangement of mottling, comb, ratio of head to body( nice refined head). I would find the best Speckled Sussex cock I could and breed her to him. And enjoy some real nice Speckled Sussex chicks. She is just starting to show a bit too much white. However, she is very nicely mottled over her entire body. What a treasure! I would bred her to a Walt Reichert or Tony Albrittion Speckled Sussex male with just a bit less white than desired.
Best,
Karen

Karen,
Thanks I didn't know she was good quality. I hatched her from a batch of cheap E bay eggs. Unfortunately I'm not supposed to have any roo but found a decrowed splash bantam so that"s what I'm working with. I am looking for a second altered boy but breed selection limited and I haven't seen a SS.
