Hello there!
Last week I ordered two Light Sussex chickens, here in the French country and instead of 6 months, the poor babies were 3 weeks old. Clearly some misunderstanding. Or not, I don't know.
They were to be collected at some agricultural shop. French ladies, all 80+ and all wearing their well known aprons as all french country ladies do, were waiting with me for their order with carton boxes in a long queue.
I could not bear the thought that the chicks would have to go back home to the breeder, motherless with travel stress etcetera, so I took them anyway.
Back home I gave them a hot water bottle, some chick food, water and tlc. They slept for 14 hours or so.
Well, they are lovely like all chicks and after a week they are doing just fine. I keep them in the house during the cold nights and let them out in the morning in the former guinea pig coop.
They chirp non-stop just before going to sleep, which is a very cosy and reassuring sound.
I wanted some hens who would go broody, because my other ones aren't that keen.
So now I have to wait a year. If they are indeed hens and no roosters, which is the question, haha. We'll see.
Elise
