The Sussex thread!

I think I may have a new layer. My Coronation Sussex may have made this beauty today. The shell color is very light for my Orpingtons, & the Sussex was in the nest at the time. She hatched July 15th, so she's exactly 6 mo today.

Does the tan color look about right for a Sussex's 1st egg?

My 12 week old light Sussex, light x buff Sussex (does that have it's own name?) and barnevelder. I had a sweet little light Sussex last year but over Christmas she disappeared. We suspect the dog but we weren't home, I knew I had to get more and when I heard of these guys I was sold. Sadly we lost our Wyandotte to heat stroke today so I may have to see about another Sussex to replace her, they seem to take the heat a little better.

Ahhh! I forgot what the babies looked like. I am down to one SS rooster. Going to try this one more time this spring. Something always happens to the hens.

Looks about the same color as my SS

I still haven't figured out who made the mystery egg. It's large for a pullet egg, but way to small for my hens. (My hens lay giant 2.5 to 3.0 oz eggs. The pullets generally start out making 1.5 oz eggs.) So far, this is the only "medium" egg I've gotten.
