The Sussex thread!

Jujubara, your little Atika is gorgeous, what a sweet photo :)

Here's my little Iris.

She likes to hop up and sit with me on my chair. So glad I got a speckled Sussex. After everything I read about them, Iris has exceeded expectations. She has a naturally calm demeanour, friendly and inquisitive, total treat hog too. Very special bird, I'm looking forward to watching her grow, she's 3-4 months at the moment. She gets on well with her flockmates Agnes (a Silkie) and Esme (a Pekin). I just love her, she's beautiful.

Thank you. And your girl is adorable. I must say, SS wasn't on my list of breeds to get, but my daughter insisted on having one. Now she's one of the favorites!

A big hello to all the SS lovers out there!

I'm fairly new to chickens but the SS is on my must have list.

I currently have 1 Red sex-link, 3 Black Sex-links, two Delawares and two others that I only know as "barnyard mixes".

Could anyone suggest a great place to get a couple good healthy Young Speckled Sussexes in Southern Ontario Canada?
Or another variety of Sussex?

Many thanks,

I also ordered Barred rocks. They are solid layers and, from my experience, very friendly. I ordered from purely poultry in Wisconsin. I chatted with one of their support people and was impressed.

I live in Guelph Ontario Canada and just have a small starter backyard flock of dual purpose birds. Nothing really special to look at though.

SSs and PRs are two breeds on my wish list to fill my flock with next time around. Can I ask what you paid or is that in poor taste? I'm new.

I wish I had a breeder or supplier nearby that had all the breeds I want without having to ship. Especially over the border from the US.

I'd also love to find some cool EEs for egg colour and some Swedish Flowers for even more beautiful feathers!
Anyone in Southern Ontario got em all?

Big Congrats on your purchase! Sounds amazing!

Each of them ran $3 or $4. No breeders close at all? I would like some Bielefelders but they are big bucks...at least the ones I found.

Is that for hatchlings?
Either way you're not helping with my Jealousy! lol
There are definitely breeders around here, but prices are much more than that from what I've found so far.
I would also love to find all the breeds I want from one source as to avoid the hassle of shipping, quarantining and the increased cost and chance of something going wrong imho.
All the best with your new birds though!
I am still jealous.
