Out of the 30 or so Coronation and split cockerels I hatched out this year there was only one that had a couple of very tiny leg feathers. The remaining boys and all of the pullets had clean shanks.

Nice roo Germaine! I really like his head and hackles. His legs are long tho. Stretch is a good name for him! If he's young he might grow into them some but I think they'll always be too long. The eggs you got from me would have been either greenfire or Bill Bradens line or a mix of them. Greenfires line has ticking show up sometimes in the saddle feathers but I have never seen it in the breast feathers before. Sorry but I wouldn't use him for breeding.

jmagill - I've had a few LS hens go broody from time to time but there is never any rhyme or reason to when they do so impossible to predict at least for me anyway. This is the first time I put any eggs under a LS broody and only the 2nd time I've hatched with a broody. I gotta say I really like hatching with a broody! Alot less stressful and she does all the work! So find her a nice quiet corner and tuck some eggs under her!

Here's some pics. Highs were in the 50's here today and she had them out almost all day - only 5 days old! I thought it was too cold but she didn't and they are all fine!

And finally the stink-eye!

As long as I'm at it here's some I snapped of my buff sussex too. They are 5 mos old now so shouldn't be too much longer til they start laying. I'm really pleased with how they are growing out!

Okay two light hens sitting on nests now! One for three weeks, only had eggs under her for two though. The other just for two days. They are taking turns moving back and forth on the two nests.

I forgot I posted on Stretch, thanks Janie! I took a hard look at the Sussex today and there are a few who have the tiniest bit of feathering on their legs way up high. I never noticed before, so these are culls?

Does anyone know what would happen, if the Speckled Sussex were to be crossed with Light Sussex or Buff Sussex?

Was wondering about that.

Thanks

Nate

Looks to me that you have a male. What I noticed when I had the speckled's, the males always filled out with white chest, and females more spotted, but they all turn out the same with an end result.

Oh NO!!! I hope not... here are my two SS... And I have been watching how much they are different.. this is at 10 weeks.

This is Slobbers
