The Sussex thread!

I finally hatched a SS x splash bantam chick. It was solid blue with a few white wing feathers. I was hoping to get some speckles on the blue base.Oh well, at least its sweet and a pullet.

Here's a few of my cuties...SS from our local TSC...I just couldn't walk by and not buy them....the little things looked so lonely in that big bin ...straight run but from what I've read about their feathering maybe 5 pullets 3 roos...we'll see...

Hi,
You'll want to be looking for bantam Speckled Sussex strains coming from Rev. Ashbrook, Gary Overton, The Mongold's , or a strain which is a composite of 2 or more of these strains. All three strains are top show quality bantam Speckled Sussex. In Speckled Sussex, especially, since they are a tri-color variety, you want to start out with quality stock. Especially in Sussex, production qualities are an intregral part of breed type.
For large fowl Speckled Sussex :
see posts #2623 ; #2607 ; #1902 on this thread.
Best,

This is my Rooster, Chief. If you look he has been hit hard this year from frostbite, a lot of us here in PA are having the same issue. Most of my Sussex are around or over five years old. Only one is a year old, I was able to hatch her last year. I was very happy about that. Here is Chief and the rest of his girls, plus our ducks and goose. They all were happy to get out some today.
