The Sussex thread!

A couple picks of my Agatha at two weeks (today!). She has a lovely pale yellow chest, and, although her juvenile feathers are coming in, she has been the slowest of our girls to feather out.

Are yours speckled sussex or some other variety?

I'm no expert, but my Sussex started getting white on her neck at 4 weeks. She also had one or two white feathers on each wing. (That is how we knew she isn't really a Welsummer, LOL) By six weeks she had white on her neck, chest, and on her head. At 7 weeks her face was almost entirely white around the beak and eyes. if you look closely at the feathers there is a black bar above the white area that separates the brown from the white.

Here is a pic at 6 weeks. If yours don't have white, they might not be SS.

Well mine are the same color brown and at 11 to 12 weeks old no white what so ever.

I definitely think they should have some white by now. Can you post pics? Maybe you got some Welsummers??

Or they could be black sex links or something else. If you can post pics that would great.

Your chicks don't look at all like my SS chick. MIne had very distinct lines around her eyes. I think they are supposed to if they are sussex. Chicks with the "chipmunk" color on their backs can be confusing when they are young since so many breeds look similar.

To post a pic from your computer...
When you are replying to a message there is a bar on the top of the message with a bunch of little icons on it. Click on the icon that is the 6th one from the right. It looks like two mountains with a little sun above them. This is the "insert image" icon. It will allow you to find the pictures you want to post on your computer and then you and add them one at a time.

You should try on the "what breed is this?" forum. Post pics from when they were babies and what they look like now. I'm the first person to say I'm not a chicken expert by any means, but I'm 99% sure those aren't speckled sussex babies.

This is what mine looked like at 10 days old.
