Sparrow has always been tiny and was the slowest one to feather out. I weighed her this morning and she's up to 3.2 pounds (still the smallest one). Our behemoth RIR pullet is the same age and is already 5 pounds. I think Sparrow is growing up normally for her breed.Mine is 16 weeks too and is showing no sign either.... She barely has a comb and it's really light pink.... She's a sweetie too
You know, thank God for mechanical coworkers! I ordered the electrical components on amazon thinking there would be instructions a complete noob like me could follow, and there was NOTHING with the thermostat that made any sense. The seller ignored all of my questions after he got my money. One of the guys I work with just took a peek at all these intimidating pieces & knew exactly what should be wired in where & how to do it safely & hooked it all up in a day for me. He has never built one before; he's just geared toward this stuff mentally. All he wanted in return was a 7-layer bean dip! I made it 8-layersYou are a mad scientist! LOL
Building an incubator isn't something I'd ever want to do. I decided if I ever hatched out eggs it would have to be with a broody, and now I have two of them! I bought them some local eggs, but no sussex in the bunch. I hope you get two sussex pullets out of your eggs. Unfortunately you can't tell in advance what is inside the egg. Keep us posted.
. I had pics taken as he went & I intend to make a thread with step-by-step instructions so anyone wanting to go that route can have visuals & guidance and most of all safety. I just want to have a hatch rate to include...'cuz I don't think I should be offering advice if it's not proven advice yet.

Yes, I think 16 weeks would be very early to start laying. I figured if they were going to lay at 20 weeks they would start to get more color to the face and combs now. So far they look just the same as they did 4 or 5 weeks ago. I do think Sparrow will be a late bloomer. She barely had any feathers until she was 4 or 5 weeks old. She was supposed to be a Welsummer. At 5 weeks when she started growing in white feathers, we knew we had something else. LOL I'll just be happy when they start laying, no matter how long it takes.
When I first got my girls, I couldn't quite tell which was the sussex and which was the welsummer, so I understand the confusion. In any case, they're both cool birds!
