The Sussex thread!

What lovely Sussex? Do they have any Nick Smith in them? Wow! If I could accomplish this with my Lights, I would be a happy camper. Is there anything you do in your development program to enhance their genetic potential?
Just lovely!

Hi Karen, I don't really do anything special with the SS. I don't think that they have any of Nick. S in them, we have been breeding withiin the group for almost 7 years now - so we're on the verge of creating out own line. They are fed a mixed diet of barley/corn and layers pellets - however I do raise all chicks undercover for the first 4 1/2 months of age so they get the best start and do't have to battle the elements! Also I tend to breed for size rather than colour which helps the girls really excel - I have found that it's better to risk badly coloured birds with a better size than it is to breed a well coloured bird with bad size.

Does anyone have BANTAM Speckled Sussex out here???? I have a small flock of 1 cock 3 hens and 1 beautiful pullet from them. I'm trying find new blood to grow my flock. They haven't started laying again I'm hoping soon. The few chicks i got to hatch last year were pullets but a neighbors dog came in and wiped out a bunch of my birds including all but the 1 remaining pullet. now she lives in all but under lock and key

6 weeks today. I sold the photogenic camera hogs, so this group didn't do so well on camera.

Breakfast was taking entirely too long, so this one decided to get in a quick nap.

Going rate is what ever they are willing to pay. Have a look at local adds and set a price if no one buys drop by a little ..... Give it 2 weeks at a time..

I sold chicks (1 week old) for $35 each and some times I sell for $6 each. Supply and demand is the key
