The Sussex thread!

Good morning everyone. I purchased a fertile egg for my broody Silkie to hatch and his guy is the result. Unfortunately, my town doesn't allow roosters so I am looking to rehome him. I know this thread is widespread and I am in Southern California, but thought I would give it a shot. Boris (originally Doris lol) has a nice temperament and has been handled since he hatched. He is currently 17 weeks old. Here are a few pictures of him over the last 17 weeks

Fortunately for me, my breeder was kind enough to take him and since Boris is a nice fellow, he has already gotten a good home. I'm a happy chicken mom tonight

I have to ask how big are the Sussex people have got from their local feed stores? Are they true to size or smaller? Also anyone in northern California ever owned them? I know my poor house chick who was a buff Orpington had issues with the heat we get. I don't want to torture the poor thing if they aren't happy in the climate I live in.

I got my 2 sussex from TSC my rooster is about 7 lbs I would say. he's pretty big. intimdates me LOL

I got my 2 sussex from TSC my rooster is about 7 lbs I would say. he's pretty big. intimdates me LOL by hen is smaller I'd say 4 lbs? I dont know she is a big smaller than my red sexlinks. I'll try to get a picture of her full body. but this is what I have as most recent picture taken the other day.

I should add they were going through molt so don't mind the hens lack of tail feathers.

Thanks for the info if I do get one I hope she is the size of your hen, sadly I can't keep roosters sadly. They are both beautiful even in molt!

Thanks The rooster is going through an attitude adjustment. If he didn't actually protect the hens he would be gone. But he's too beautiful LOL
