So they are not supposed to have a white feather in their tail. Almost every picture I have ever seen has it. If they are not supposed to have it, is the only way to get rid of it to use a roo that doesn't have that trait. I noticed the other day my roo is starting to get it.

Well I have alot of 1 month old speckled sussex roos(looks like ten out of 16 might be roos)

,Ill keep an eye out for all black tails....

Our SS are now almost 12 weeks old and I seem to be having a major brain cramp telling the boys from the girls. There are 10 out there. They seem to not have those long hackle feathers like the EE the same age. What are the differences between the sexes at this point and when do they usually crow or start laying? Thanks!

It is official...I ended up with a pair of pure Coronations from Keesmom's eggs, I also ended up with a few splits. I waited because I did not want to get disappointed if black began to develop. The babies...

Is there a way to tell at hatch if the chicks are indeed Coronation split or just Light Sussex?

I hatched eggs from someone selling Light Sussex hens that were three weeks with a Coronation roo. Bradshaw and Braden line. It will be an awfully long time to find out if they are splits the old fashioned way by breeding them!

I also have pure Light Sussex that are probably four or five months old now, they are the biggest teddy bears. I can't believe how friendly these birds (Bradshaw) are, they are all lap chickens! Usually it's the roos that suck up to win you over but all of these Light Sussex do!

Really nice birds, some of the softest friendliest chickens I've ever had.

Get some if you don't already have them I don't think you will be disappointed with their personalities.

This is my speckled sussex Agnes. She is my favorite of my 15 chickens. She is really bad and that is probably why i like her so much. She was the smallest of the 15 and the only speckled sussex that i got. I love her and i think she is the most beautiful of all my hens.
