The Sussex thread!

I can't seem to get the link to open either. Can you upload the photo to this thread. Fairly easy. Just open a "reply" window and scroll up to the top and click "Uploads". Then a new window will open with the option of "browse". Clisk browse and find the file with the photo on your computer. Double click the photo. Choose what size you want. Then click submit. Copy the html code for the image and paste in the reply window. Post reply. Very easy to do. Would love to see the photo.

Hi Pdsavage,

Gosh, I am glad you posted because now I remember where I got my SS girls from! They are lovely, thank you. I may be asking for more eggs in a bit because a critter took my roo last summer.

They are such attractive birds and they have a really nice personality. My one girl has almost the identical coloring of your roo, a vibrant red with speckles. The other is lighter with more speckles and just a pretty but not quite as big. Both great though

Hello All!!

I'm glad I found this thread! I have speckled sussex and I'm currently searching for more information when it comes to breed standards. I saw a post on here about white tail feathers...is this unwanted in the speckleds? Is there any websites that give a breakdown of the breed standards?
I've got my first batch of speckleds in the bator and they're due to hatch on the 28th! I've swapped out roo's and will be hatching those out next month.

I am also trying to find some hatching eggs for silver sussex. They are beautiful and I love the heritage breeds!

Here's some pictures of my speckleds...

I would love some comments on my Speckleds, good or bad, so I know how I'm coming along with the breed!

Can anyone tell me what it means when someone posts hatching eggs for sale + splits? I don't know what they mean by split...does that mean crosses of breeds?

Thanks!

Still looking for Silver Sussex hatching eggs!

Most of the splits are concerning the development of the lavender gene. As in the Coronation Sussex. You take a Coronation Sussex cockerel and mate to a Light Sussex hen. A percentage will hatch as Coronation, a percentage will hatch as Light, but a percentage will hatch looking like the Light but carry the Coronation. These carriers are called splits. Eventually you will end up with a line that will breed full Coronation. They are also using the Light to improve and propagate the Silvers. Hope that helps.
