The Sussex thread!

Pics
Finally got some updated pictures of my Speckleds!!!! Both boys are from Bargains line, as are 3 of the girls! The two older girls are from a guy in this area that used to breed them. Not sure what line of Speckleds he had, I gotta remember to call and ask him.

This is Frog. She;s one of the girls from the local guy (I got her and Jam as day olds last July)

I have some 6 week olds in the back yard right now. . . . The roos have clear pronouce wattles and combs. . . .
Your third chick appears to be a pullet to me. I could me wrong. . . . Based on what I see in my own 6 week olds. . . she is a she or a really slow developing he.

I have a newbie speckled question.... Is there a way to sex them at an early age??

I have 11 one week olds and really only want to keep a two or three pullets and would like to rehome the rest, was wondering if there is a way to do that sooner than later.

Are you able to post some photos? Close ups of the combs and also body profiles usually help the most.

I'm looking forward to reading the responses, as SS are tough to sex (until they crow or lay an egg, that is!

I just know in some breeds pullets tend to grow wind feathers quicker than cockerels. My orpingtons are pretty easy to guess that way for them most part, though there is the occasional one that will fool you.

How about this little 4-5 week old? My friend bought it at my swap as a hatchery sexed Speckled Sussex, but I'm not so sure they got it right.....

I'm so sad. I got 11 Speckled Sussex hatching eggs to put under my two broodies, and not one looks like it is developing. I was so excited to finally join this thread.
