The Sussex thread!

Pics
So my will power is not what i wish it was... I had orriginally wanted speckeled sussex as one of my dual purpose breeds, but when i couldnt find them this spring, i decided to put it off till next year or so... or so i thought! I was at a buy sell trade this weekend and low and behold 7 sussex chicks came home with me... i need help haha.

As chicks often do at these things, they looked a bit miserable, it was a crappy day so i didnt judge them too harshly, but now that i've got them home and put them next to a buff orp chick who is around a week and a half old, im a bit concerned...

The guy wasn't quite sure how old the chicks were, but guessed 2-3 weeks. their wings are in so are their tails(all of them) they look more mature then the buffs, yet... they are lighter, bonier and about the same visual size... I'm guessing they didnt have the best care. will they recover from this or will they likely always be smaller then they had the potential to be? They have gained much energy now that they have settled in. when i first got them home however they were not impressed and very unhappy.

I picked up 7:

I noticed some have alot of white, others not so much, and some are mostly shades of brown, is that common? I hope to be able to keep a trio of them once they are grown up and i can asses their quality more.
Thanks
Sib

I've been calling to local shop but they don't have SS yet

I'm waiting for them since April!!!
Start thinking to order online thru Cackle...
But mini order is 15 and I already have 5!!
My husband is not willing to keep all 15 and he wants me to resell a more than half of them

Not sure.... I'm still thinking....

I don't mind paying shipping if that's only way I can get SS this year.
The problem is ... I attach to them badly and can't let them go!

ASK AROUND - - - We have 5 local feedstores. I found one that was willing to add my 4 chick order onto their regular order. .. .
I paid chick price and did not have to pay extra shipping. I also did not have to order more than I wanted.

I specified pullets only and got exactly what I wanted.

I called 3 different stores close by.
They don't get SS unless I make special order and special order time is over, they don't do anymore...

Rural king special ordered my SS for me, no shipping and i only ordered 5, they did cost 1.99 per girl though, rare breed? But I thought that was a good deal as It would have costed me alot more and the hatcheries all said sold out til 2012. But they were able to get them for me through Cackle hatchery.
