The Svart Hona (Swedish Black Hen) Thread!

Pics
Only one chick survived from our first hatch. She's about 3 weeks old now. So cute. She's quite a flyer. For those of you who have several SH, are they all good fliers?

She also has a sizeable tail proportionate to her size. It's probably an inch tall. She has very little comb, but this crazy tail. Please tell me that a large tail does not indicate anything at this time in her life.

I want it to be a she--even a she with a prematurely developed tail would be fantastic!
Yes, Svarthöna are quite the flyers. Pullets usually develop their tails faster than cockerels.

Don't forget to post pics of the chicks when you start hatching
lol....you funny.....

so i noticed that the birds are creating some male crowing noises and the females are laying eggs...i have like 30 eggs....wow...that will be some egg sandwich....lol....i havnt separated them yet in to the breeder pairs yet.....so i cannot use them.....even after they are separated i cannot use the eggs for incubation for about a month.....bummer.....would make some interesting fibro birds for sure....hahahahha...which to use....the bryce line rooster which is bigger or the gff rooster which is smaller....i wanna use the bigger one as i dont want small birds...what do you guys think...i do have all the birds marked so i know which ones are which....and let me tell you... the hmong chicken hen is so similar to the ayam cemani and svart hona hen that it is crazy....and i wouldnt buy from a regular person in fear of lineage lying and purity.....so keep it clean and straight from the source......thanks again bryce...i think i got like 3-4 hens and one perfect male...out of the initial bunch sent....worked out perfect....some we actually butchered for hmong ceremonies....and this was a chance for me to see what the inside of the bird was like...they loved the bird...which was a male....he did have some silver leakage...and as you all know is normal so i donated him....later learning that the average silkie has more black features......bummer...however it was my dream to look in the back and only see fibro birds free ranging....and now that is a reality.....so interesting to see the birds....we have an apple tree and its something else to walk outside and see a couple of blackbirds in the apple trees enjoying their snacks....and then you realize that its just your chickens...lol....so cool to see them fly down form like ten feet with they darkness....wow...so cool and something to view for sure....i cant wait to see what they are gunna do with the 40 foot grape vines that are 8 feet tall.....last year was so not cool....chickens on both sides of the fence....hahaa...this year i will not be going out and throwing back the birds so to speak....they make it over then they can make it back....if not then they are for sure free range....

those are the ones that made it thru.....the other ones....they didnt even make it to freezer camp...but the doggies sure had a nice cooked meal...expensive meal but a meal i guess....im picky some of the other ones would have been selected for the pot as well but i was instructed to keep some of the males just in case....so luckily because of the man they are still hanging and cluckin around....hahaha....otherwise i would be left with only two males and not four....grrr.....
