The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Ha! Wouldn't have thought Evvie as the fiery broody!

Maybe Foureira is the outcast, and the broody serama fire isn't that fiery after all. What can I say, I named her appropriately:p

I hope she does. Today is day 19, if I'm not mistaken. I hope at least one egg hatches, she's worked hard for it

Good luck to Evvie as well!
I hope she has at least one hatch too, that will be so exciting for you and you :celebrate

Btw. Did I mention we finally got a Serama? The lady said it was a serama mix roo, but he counts! Meet Dante.

Thank you!

Today she seemed more restless, slightly switching positions in the nest, and fiddling with the nesting material a bit. I've noticed that these are signs of final movement, eggs getting into position, internal pips, things like that.

They all seem to be exhibiting the same symptoms around day 19 or so. Most of the chicks here hatch on day 20, and that's tomorrow.

We'll see what she's got under there pretty soon!

Eeek! He's very pretty :love !

Is he favored by any of the girls?
Not yet. He just got out of quarantine. Dolly Parton fights him each time he goes near her. It's funny. He isnt high on the rooster pecking order. Hook is still top boss. It seems Simba is coming in second or will be soon. He is getting bigger than Kithara and Lucky. Granted he is a Calico Princess. He might get bigger than the mixed breeds anyways.

Thank you, Fluffy! Evvie’s a proven amazing mother, so I’m happy to see her experience that for the 2nd time this year. Her growls make me laugh!

I’m also excited to see Foureira and her tiny hatchlings! I hope they’re pullets to help build the Serama army. 🥰 This is such a special time for you! Your first hatchlings from one of your girls!

Here’s the ‘chapter’ on Clovie 🤣:

She’s currently on a few infertile bobwhite eggs. There was a “teeny” issue with her onset of major broodiness (I’m not sure whether I mentioned it previously). She was trying to incubate anything even remotely egg-shaped, and she wouldn’t break. I placed 7 king eggs under her for a few weeks, then I switched them with 1 of Evvie’s 2 eggs. Evvie didn’t mind… she has the ‘do not bother me AT ALL’ attitude and is fine with 1 egg.

5 of the 7 king chicks hatched (2 infertile) in the incubator. Dainty Clovie wasn’t able to keep Evvie’s egg warm enough, and the embryo (I thought) was acting sluggish and the shell was too cool to the touch. Into the incubator with that 1, but I’ll place the chick under her right after hatch for her to care for. She deserves that.

- The End - 😂

You really try to give every hen and pullet you have a fair chance, it's inspiring.

I'm sure Clovie will be a wonderful foster mum to the little quail chick. I wonder if the small size of seramas and adjacent breeds helps when raising other small bird species, such as quail
