The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Thank you for asking! He's doing really good. Shortly after being added to the bantam pen, Foureira started hanging out with her sisters, so he doesn't interact too much with Ubon. Foureira still lets him hang around. Ursula and Ocean do the same for Ubon. I'm sure both chicks will hang out and keep eachother company when their mothers won't let them hang around them.

He's still not tried to crow. I've found Lady Gaga's male offspring tend to crow at the 8week+ mark, and Fig/Fern is a little older than 9 weeks old right now. I haven't seen him being pecked by any of the other hens. Thankfully, they're all doing good it seems

He has also mastered the art of flying, and more specifically, tree roosting. Should not be long before he roosts at the top branches with the senior hens, if I decide on keeping him. Conformationaly, I'm still not thrilled
Sounds like they are all doing well 🙂
I think I’d freak if my birds tried to roost in the trees 🤣

This particular olive tree is growing I side their pen!

Even with the experienced birds, I'm not doing full free ranging hours yet. I'm really annoyed about that. Both the chickens and I love free ranging

It’s been a while since I last updated this thread. All the broodies ended up keeping their young for way longer than I expected, and/or am used to seeing from them. Unlike all previous batches, the girls never forcefully kicked out the youngsters.

Right now Fig/Fern is acting like a mature cockerel, much like his father at a similar age. He’s not as great conformationally, but better than I expected.

The girls have yet to go broody under his protection (which admittedly isn’t very good right now), and I doubt they will for a while.

Ubon is a bit of a loner, not sharing maturity levels with any of the other girls right now, but she’s doing good

Right! Photos!

Well, to be honest, I was sort of avoiding sharing pictures, simply because the pens are a bit of a mess right now:oops:. It doesn’t help that their favourite spot to hang out is right under their roosting area, and as such the messiest part of their pen

Here is one relatively recent one, taken this week. As you can tell by the state of the pen, I’m not enjoying the forced hiatus from free ranging; so much more poop to clean up  !

That’s a great photo!
As you can imagine, our chickens poop too. In fact, I’m fairly certain mine are throwing wild parties every night based on the amount of 💩 I have to clean out every day ☹️

Fluffy, they all look fabulous!! ❤️ Very healthy and robust, pretty too! 😍 Thanks for sharing! 😊

We chicken keepers know ALL about poop, 💩 not only is it a fact of life, but the pooping never ends. 🤣 So no need to worry about that!
