The truth about most dogs lives.

Sorry to disagree on this one but my farm needed a puppy to be trained as a livestock guardian dog, and the only one available was a great pyrenees from a farmer down the road. Every shelter I looked at REQUIRED a fence for the dog and NEEDED to invade my family's privacy by inspecting our home and calling for personal references.

That would be one of those cases where I too would buy from a breeder. Good breeders that care about there dogs are good people to buy from. I just wouldn't agree with buying from a pet store or someone who's dog got out and had puppy a few weeks later.

It is not legal to kill off dogs in this country. If you get caught you will be in a world of trouble. A vet should not if he has any ethical morals kill off an animal just cause you want him too instead of it going to a shelter and again not legal to kill cats and dogs yourself no matter how you do it.

If a vet has any ethical morals he will put the dog down if the owners ask, instead of sending a dog to HELL in a shelter.
If the vet has any ethical morals..he will put the dog down humanely..so the owners dont have to shoot their dog..

Just my opinion..

Not entirely true. Each STATE is different, it's not a Nationwide law.

We buy all our animals from local breeders if at all possible. I cant even walk into the local shelter knowing that A-The people who work there are complete jerks and B- Ever other animal but the one you take home will die. I could never understand how someone could make that choice, so I avoid them.

Arabianequine: Not true. In my state, I can legally shoot my dog. I cannot abuse it. There is a difference. Dogs are recognized as property under the law and I can dispose of my property. I do not HAVE to surrender my property to a shelter, etc. I can bring my dog to the vet and ask him to put it down and 95% will abide by my wishes. Perhaps you live in a state where they are regulating your property, but not here. Also, if the neighbors dog is attacking my livestock I have the legal right to shoot it. The day I cannot decide the fate of my animals is the day I will never keep one again.

I agree. I adopted a cat from a local shelter. Every one in the place was a tree hugging animal activist. They gave me the complete third degree. I understand some questioning but get serious folks. They make it so people don't want to even consider adopting from them.

yup we also cant adopt because apparently living in the middle of hundreds of acres and not having a 6 foot fence instead of a 4 foot isn’t good enough. oh and we have children

and I dont need CPS style visits to my home every week for months. oh and I can purchase a healthy decent quality puppy and get it fixed for 1/2 the price of abused shelter dogs with issues.

im not saying shelters are bad, just not all are run well or economically so quite literally the cost of adopting cats and dogs really throws people off around here.

As for the dog we have now. He is a 9 month old Black lab. We got him from a breeder about 2 miles from our home. We got him when he was 3 months old. the breeder had 3 males left and we chose the biggest boy.
( Toby). Here is the kicker she did not charge us a dime. He came with all AKC papers. She told us her policy is if there was any left in a litter after 3 months she would give them away free of charge. She just wanted to make sure they got good homes. In a contract we signed it stated she gets the right of first refusal if we were to sell or give the dog away. She wants to be the one to place all of her dogs. She makes sure they don't end up in a pound. Great breeder! And Toby is a great addition to our family.

Same thing here, we got our Black Lab Aspen from a breeder 20 miles away. We paid $250 and she is AKC, she and her remaining littermate were running around the farm living the good life when we purchased her. The breeder had a single male and a single female lab, living the good life. Best dog ever.

How would it be any different then from me going in to the doctor a doctor for people and tell him to kill me or my husband taking me in there to tell the doctor to kill me because I or my husband does not want me in a nursing home?

I don't think that is humane to just kill something cause it is your choice unless it is more humane to do so because there is a reason because the animal is in pain and suffering. Better off then and not adoptable anyways probably.
