At least I know it is doing something. Spending time with my mom at the assisted living facility is giving me incentive. So many of the older folks have balance and mobility issues that seem like they could have been prevented.
In addition to helping us be better off physically as we age, I remember reading that being active lessens the chance you'll develop problems like dementia. My 81 year old grandfather has outlived two sedentary wives, still works full time (he retired but got bored) and goes out dancing with his girlfriend 3 nights a week. He was running everyday well into his 70s. He is still as sharp as he ever was and has more energy than I do at 30. I won't mind old age if it looks like that and I know his secret is being active his entire life. I try to keep that in mind, too, when I just want to quit.
