Linnet tried her hardest to focus on her embroidery, but her thoughts kept wandering to Peter. She had sent him a note via Fawn asking him to come this evening. She was bursting with impatience to tell him the news, and every minute seemed to drag by.
Maud, switching the tea tray to her other hip, knocked gently upon Gwen's door. "Tea, your highness," she said loudly as she entered, not bothering to wait.
Richard handed his horse's reins to the stable boy then headed towards the castle at a fast pace.
~~~
Fawn galloped her horse towards Edinburgh Castle. The clouds were darkening, promising rain later, and she intended to be back at Alnwick when they began pouring.
~~~
Edmund slapped some paperwork down on his desk with more force than he meant causing his inkwell to rattle. It was nearly time for tea, but what did that matter as he would be taking it alone, as usual.
~~~
Emilee smiled warmly at her mother. The two had been in deep conversation ever since Emilee had finally arrived little more than a week ago. Anna could hardly believe her eyes, her daughter safe and with her again after sixteen years. Sixteen years she had missed out on her daughter's life. But now she was finally back, they would catch up as best they could on those missed years.
~~~
Katrina hummed to herself as she finished washing a basket of sheets. As soon as the head laundress dismissed her she would check on Gavin, who seemed to finally be healed. She knew he couldn't stay at the castle forever, but the thought of him leaving made her sad and she tried not to think about it.
~~~
Edwin glared across the chess table at Jane, who was beating him at chess for the fourth time that day. His mother, most annoyingly, had insisted that he teach Jane to play. It seemed it ought to be the other way around.
Jane restrained herself from smirking as she silently slid her knight across the checkered board. "Check," she said quietly.
Mariah looked up from her cross stitching to see how the two were faring. She was pleased that they got along so well with each other, and intended to encourage it as much as possible. (Like she knows
