My rules for roos:

first attack - use the dominance routine and cutoff spurs (no point in taking chances)
second attack - thump him good and use the dominance routine again
third attack - haul straight to stump, worry about replacement and money down the drain later

If/when I get replacement roos from Royce I'll have two very nice guys available.

Chooks, That is a nice looking young guy! Where did you get him?

Edited for spelling.

It's my same rooster, Moose. Just a different shot of him. I got him from eggs I hatched from Bargain. I'll be getting him some "nice" (unrelated) hens to breed him to as soon as my new coop is finished.

ETA: Hopefully I'll get it done before winter hits, and I can hatch the babies so they'll be laying by spring.

BARGAIN - What line of Welsummers do you have!?

I dont remember if I asked you before what line you have? What line is it? Who did you get your birds from?

Nate

Started out Barber lines, but then other stock was added. So it's kind of a mixture now. My plan is to get some unrelated hens to breed him to, then I'll be offering hatching eggs.

I'm going to continue to work with him, but there will be a space open for him on the block if he doesn't get over himself. I will never get rid of his dad Odin so all is not lost if he does have to go. Thank you all for your concern, he didn't hurt me and that is his only saving grace.

WOW- what a difference seeing photos from my phone vs. my computer......just cruised back through the photos and now I see what Ewesheep is talking about on your roo louie/Jessica, but I will agree with Ewesheep...he should be a great protector for your flock. Sorry to have misled you earlier.

My Wellie roo was giving me the look yesterday he's old enough to weigh and he's right on the mark 6.1 lbs @ 20 weeks he wouldn't let me catch him either I had to use the net. Wow today he's a totally different dude since I told him he could be Bar-b-Que teenagers are so well dumb my pullets are looking like they could lay soon they looked small compared to my Marans and Dellies I didn't weigh the pullets but my roo is right on weight wise. I'd like some more pullets I only have 2 but I'm going to let them run with my hatchery cuckoos he has plenty of women until I sell them off....maybe I'll hatch more

Glad to know that I'm consistent. Though I think that I'm liking him more as he grows.
