Look who popped in yesterday.....and the little one in the front popped in this morning.

I set 9 eggs and 6 made it to lockdown, 4 hatched but one a little roo did not make it, he pipped at the wrong end and managed to make it out, but he was not quite finished cooking yet and was not done absorbing and bloody, I hate culling but I knew it was the right thing to do.

But atleast I got 3 girls out of the 6, I don't believe the other 2 eggs are going to do anything.

Candled our current incuabtion last night at day 10-we have 2 Welsummer eggs showing good progress out of the 4 we set-both eggs developing are from 1 hen and the other 2 eggs that we took out were from the other hen laying. Daddy is one of the 2 boys hatched from Nate's eggs! Now if I could just figure out which hen lays which egg.....

to Pinkchick, sorry your little guy didn't make it. It would be one less roo to deal with. Unless you are looking for a heir.

Man it was COLD yesterday.....went down to 6 degrees yesterday morning. Now where is spring???!!!

Robin~ I don't mind not having another roo to deal with, I have 15 right now....some are waiting for the freezer. I will work on looking for an heir later this spring when I do a hatch for fall layers. I like watching them grow out during the summer months and mature during the fall. Something about the fall sun and Welsummers.

Oh I've noticed there is a demand for roos on Yahoo and sometimes on here. Man, if we had every customers coming in wanting our roos, it would solve our problems with extra roos we don't need or want.
