The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Fay that would be neat if we can tell by sex at hatching or a week old!

I love the color of Blue Partridge, even with gold leakage in neck feathers would make it flashy. I think genetics won't go in my favor in what I want. I dont want one that would end up making brown eggs or simply green eggs. I hope the beards get passed down or least have one.

Well, I'm going to go now

I just have to say, of all the breeds threads that I go on, this is the most friendly and most welcoming. I just wanted to thank you guys for being so nice and so willing to share information and discuss ideas with people that are new to breeding and new to Welsummers.

Thank you!

We do have great people in here, trying to be fair to everyone and make them feel welcome. I could not have done it without Nate, Royce, Pinkchick, and the rest of you guys' help in getting it off the ground. Such hard work and plenty of headaches trying to run it smoothly. There ARE times I would want to throw it all in the garbage but realizing there are people like you need me to keep it going until I can not do it anymore or voted out LOL! I was hoping Royce would run it but he has his hands full. At least he could be one of my mentors and Nate's help, when I am not around online or sick, he stepped up to the plate.

Same issue I have had with the LF - hatch chicks, but dont have the intensions of rasing them to adults, lol. Some hens did a ok job, but not the greatest!

My BF on the other hand are the greatest broodies and mothers ever!!!

I've been researching this myself. Its one of the reasons I've been trying to find blue eggs. I've got a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana and two Blue Wheaten Ameraucana hens. I'm putting one of the wellie hens in with that roo and hoping for some olive eggers. My understanding is that you will be able to tell at birth as the pea comb and blue gene are linked, so any offspring with a pea comb should be olive eggers.

Yes, any birds produced from that cross with the peacomb should be your olive eggers. There is something like a 3% chance that a single combed bird from that cross would lay a blue egg or in this case an olive egg.
